Question:
Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your life and academic achievement? One difficult experience I have had in my life is when my parents first got divorced. When this event first happened I was very say, angry, mad and had all sorts of feelings toward the situation. To get through this rough situation, first I told my parents how I felt and got rid of all the emotions. Second I started to focus on what truly made me happy in life, such as wrestling, football, and church. When focusing on these things I would keep my mind off of the divorce. After a week I finally accepted the fact that they got divorced and that things in life happen for a reason, you just need to keep moving no matter what. Through this experience I learned that when difficult experiences happen in your life it is best to keep moving and focus on what makes you happy. This event did not affect my academic achievement in any way. I learned to keep moving forward no matter what, focus on what makes you the happiest, don’t make excuses even when you have a good opportunity to. I am thankful of how the situation played out and what i learned from it. That moment in my life has made me stronger mentally! Question:
Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or worked to overcome an educational barrier you have faced. The school education program has helped me who I have become today. School has given me the opportunity to not only help me acquire the knowledge I need to succeed in life, but also show my physical talent in wrestling. I have taken the most opportunities in academics as possible so I can get to my dream college. I want to study business or construction management in college and the honors math program will help me get the knowledge I need to succeed. One educational barrier I have had in school is my laziness in art. Some educational opportunities such as a tutor have helped me overcome these barriers. Tutors teach students how to manage their time, stay organized, and how to do something academic that they don’t know how to do. Other ways on how I surpass an educational barrier, is researching the topic of the barrier, ask the teacher for help, and stay focused. Researching the topic helps you learn more than you knew before and you start to understand what you are doing wrong. The teacher’s job is to help you learn. That being said, ask for help! The teacher will help you in whatever you are struggling in. Staying focused in the subject you are struggling in is the most important thing. If you pay attention you will learn to understand the topic. Finally, when in an academic barrier never, ever give up! Most people see school as a horrible place, however education is how to get out of all your financial struggles. Question:
What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrated that talent over time? As of right now my greatest talent is wrestling. Just a few years ago I was just an average talented football player and wrestler. Wrestling is by far the most meaningful to me because of all the life lessons I have learned from this sport. Such as hard work always pays off, never giving up, and set goal then go achieve them! This talent definitely has came from hard work. I am not the most athletic kid, but I put in the work and never quit. My talent has came from working harder than most can handle and putting in extra time that most are not willing to do. With my dad, coaches, and God who have helped me attain this mindset I am able to do all thing. What changed from me being a decent wrestler to a great wrestler is that I focused on everything I was bad at and started to work on it. I am obsessed with this sport because it challenges me mentally and physically. Anyone can do anything they want as long as they put in the work and try to get 1% better every single day! All the extra running and workouts have helped me get to where I am at today. I have tried sports such as Judo to help me learn more technique so I can get a different edge on my opponents. Wrestling shows you how mentally and physically tough you truly are, it is mind-blowing how much the body can take! Question:
Every person has a creative side, and it can be expressed in many ways: problem solving, original and innovative thinking, and artistically, to name a few. Describe how you express your creative side. Every time I go to a party with drugs or alcohol I always seem to be the unique kid there. I believe that you don’t need drugs and alcohol to have fun, while almost all of the other kids disagree. My viewpoint make me unique compared to a lot of other kids. When thinking of the same situation from the perspective of another person who was there with me, my approach was different from that person’s because I thought about how drugs and alcohol would affect my wrestling capabilities. Affecting my wrestling would ruin my college choices and then that would affect my entire life! I have had a problem in wrestling where I had no idea how to beat my opponent, but then my imagination and intuition guided me to the solution. I have a passion for wrestling. This passion has taught me that you have to be unique to become the best. If you practice the same way as everyone else you will never become the best. From wrestling I have learned that being unique is not a bad thing, but in fact it is something to be proud of. Being average and just like everyone else is something I truly fear. I express my creative side in wrestling, I am always trying to find new methods on how to beat my opponent. I also express my creative side when I am trying to figure out something by myself. Being creative is when you will find out how smart you truly are. Question:
Everyone has a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their life story would be incomplete without it. Share your story. My life would be incomplete without wrestling. Wrestling is my life, it is apart of my identity. Wrestling has taught me so many lessons in life, without it I would not be the person I am today. My dad always taught me that hard work will always pay off and that the only thing you deserve is what you earn. Nothing in life is given to you, so go after it and get it! Race does not matter whatsoever in this situation. What makes me unique is how I think during difficult situations. When most people start giving up, my brain tells me to keep going until the other person breaks mentally and physically. Wrestling has given me a mindset that I can do anything no matter how difficult the task is. This is what will make me successful in life. Wrestling has also taught me to be an individual, which means I can do everything by myself if I have to. Through wrestling I have learned to get out of my comfort zone, even adults struggle with this. Getting out of your comfort zone is hard for most people, but if you are good at it you will succeed in life. Wrestling has showed me that everyone fails, the only thing that matters is how you respond to it. Setting goals is a very important strategy to becoming the best at what you want to do. In the beginning of every wrestling season my coach makes us set three goals that we want to achieve throughout the season. This teaches us to set a goal and make it happen. In wrestling there is a saying that whoever has the higher head wins, this relates to life because if you have your head down you gave up, but if you have the higher head you are still fighting until the very end. When doing a task I have learned that you do it one hundred percent not anything less. If you doing something less than one hundred percent you are wasting your own time. Wrestling you are competing to see who is the better wrestler. Just like in life you will be competing for a job, the person who works the hardest usually gets it. In wrestling I have been through many ups and downs, such as failing my dream that I have had since I was a little kid of becoming a state champion. Being so close, but not achieving this dream really crushed me mentally. From this situation I learned that you can never work too hard and that in life not everything will go your way! I love this sport so much because of how it has prepared me for life after highschool and college. Wrestling is a sport that will prepare you for everything in life. I am beyond thankful for my family who has helped me get into this sport. Because of this sport I will be successful in life no matter how hard life will be. I am strong, brave, and smart! |
